An interactive user interface for non-verbal children with autism to connect, communicate and express their sense of self.
Challenge
Creating a solution for non-verbal children to have a higher level of communication and expression that allows for greater connection to people in and outside of they’re communities.
Insight
There are 1 million people in the U.S. diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and are non-verbal with 2% being children. Being non-verbal can create communication barriers between the child and others. It can often lead to a misunderstanding of who someone is and the message they want to convey. Intellectual ability is also brought into question of people that are non-verbal, although more than 40% of non-verbal Autistic children exceed the average in intellectual abilities.
Solution
A friendly, complex, useful and easy to use system that creates connection and understanding between the user and the outside world and allows for better way to express their sense of self.
Branding and Ideation Process
When discovering the brand identity for this project I wanted it to have a humanistic and friendly feel that would be approachable to children of the ages of 8-17. The origin of E.O. Wilson a Social Biologist that studied the social behavior of people and animals and was known for is childlike sense of wander.
